Amazon Product Research After a Margin Check
Product research should happen after basic margin pressure is understood. A high-demand Amazon product can still be a poor opportunity if referral fees, fulfillment cost, advertising, returns, and landed cost leave too little net margin.
Start with profit assumptions
Use the Amazon FBA calculator or a country-specific Amazon calculator to test sale price, landed cost, fulfillment cost, ad cost per order, and return reserve. Then use product research to validate whether the product has enough demand and realistic competition.
Questions to answer before inventory
- Can the product survive a higher ad cost per order?
- Is the target sale price realistic against current competitors?
- Are similar products winning through reviews, price, bundle quality, or brand strength?
- Would a small test order still make sense if conversion is slower than expected?
Tool category fit
Amazon product research tools such as Helium 10 or Jungle Scout can be useful after the calculator shows enough margin to justify deeper demand, keyword, listing, and competition analysis.
